Libby Lockhart, LLB
Libby has been practicing law since 1990, starting out in Wellington and moving to Marlborough in 1992 for a ‘two year stint’. She worked in general practice law at several firms before joining Crichton Loach, and becoming a partner there. Libby and Marianne merged that law firm into Wain & Naysmith in 2014.
Libby is best known for her considerable expertise in family law. She is equally known for her warm, approachable manner which is a real comfort in what can be an emotionally difficult time for her clients.
She is an experienced ‘lawyer for child’, and is on the panel of mediators for the New Zealand Law Society. Libby is one of only two Blenheim-based mediators under the new family justice system.
Domestic violence is another area of expertise and Libby has worked for many women from Women’s Refuge over the years.
Libby works extensively in the area of relationship property law. She enjoys helping clients with adoptions and has an interest in surrogacy issues.
General practice law means Libby also covers a wide brief including residential property conveyancing, wills and succession planning, and family trusts.
Libby lives on a hill country farm and vineyard with her husband and two teenage children.
Non-work time is spent with the family and the children’s activities. Libby served on a school board of trustees for seven years. She loves reading, fishing in the Marlborough Sounds and skiing when she gets the chance.
